My Clothes Make Me Itch, Could It Be Due To The Detergent?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

In most cases clothes that have been washed with a strong detergent or washing powder cause the skin to irritate leading to itching. One should try washing the clothes in mild detergents; however if the clothes still continue to induce the sensation of itching then the cause could be a skin infection due to fungus and the like.

One should in that case visit a dermatologist at the earliest as most skin infections are not only contagious but also tend to spread rapidly to other parts of the body. Also one should wash one's clothes separately using an appropriate disinfectant preferably in water that is sufficiently hot depending on the type of clothes.

Cotton clothes can be washed in water heated to a high temperature. One should ideally wear loose and flimsy clothes weather permitting. One should also not use clothes worn by other people which results in most skin infections being transmitted.

Some Detergents are high in Phosphates which will cause you to itch. Change to a mild soap and this should help...avoid TIDE.
