Solar system refers to the sun and the collection of celestial bodies that rotate around the sun. It includes the planets, their moons, the asteroid belt, the comet and the Kuiper belt. They are held together and are bound to the sun by the force of gravitation. Previously our solar system consisted of nine official planets named Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
But recently there was debate in which it was discussed whether Pluto should be or not considered as a planet. It was triggered by the finding of a celestial body bigger than the Pluto. There were many arguments and ultimately it was decided that Pluto is not a planet and is now considered as a dwarf planet. Thus now the solar system has only eight planets instead of nine.

Originally there were nine planets. But recently the last and the dwarf planet Pluto lost its status as planet for the first time in the history of space. And there were proposals to add two more planets to the list. For the result we should wait but as far as present condition is concerned, there are eight planets in solar family.
