Just keep setting him in it every time after he eats especially, he will pick up on it soon. If he goes somewhere else, just pick him up and put him in the litter box. Best wishes.

Well,how i teach-ed my cat is just take him to the litter box and make him stay for a while.and he will eventually get used to it.
