It's a very nice question you have asked here, well I completely agree to what Em_Ritch has said, your actions will alway speak louder than what yo say or feel, simultaneously you should always comfort the man by saying things that are need to be said at those times when he is seeking appreciation, for a man appreciation from the woman he loves is like a medicine to do more, he feel more confident than ever, and would thrive to give more. He feels like he is on the top of the world and can achieve anything, its a very comforting thing to appreciate your man whenever its necessary and when you feel you should say something like that. Small gestures, and a simple smile does the job at times, and at times you need to say things like you are lucky to have him as a partner in life, and he is doing the best job to keep the both of you happy. Make him feel like he is a complete man who can take complete care of his family and fulfills all the responsibilities on can do. You can say these things to him, or if you want to go more romantic and touch his heart, then write a letter to him with all you feelings and thoughts for whatever he does is absolutely wonderful, make it a romantic conversation sort of a thing and not just letter, add some passion in it, and you can write anything as no one else would be reading it.... And post it from a different place with his name and your address on it, and when he receives it it will be a wonderful surprise for him, or you can just have a candlelite dinner arranged for the both of you anywhere at home or at someplace else, and hand it over to him with a flower, or any other way that you want to do it.
