To improve the service of the call centers it is essential that the agents are empowered and not just used as scapegoats for the customers to vent their anger on but people with authority and jurisdiction over other aspects of the product's mix where they could effectively employ themselves and ensure quality of delivery. Agents inputs can also prove to be very helpful in designing a product mix as they are well aware of the customers requirements normally. Besides empowerment, foster a fraternizing environment where the agents would be more comfortable in, reduce politics, ensure fair play and impartiality and make sure no one gets any extra benefits that they haven't worked for.
