As strange as it sounds, miniature horses are actually used as guide animals for the blind, though in the UK it isn't really that common. In America however, more and more people are replacing guide dogs with guide horses. Due to their small size, the miniature horse is ideal to lead you around and they can even live in the house if trained correctly.

Miniature horses are born with a natural ability to guide. They are constantly alert and they have a great ability to sense danger. When they do come into contact with a dangerous situation, they guide their owner to a safe place unlike guide dogs. Also, guide horses are a lot easier to train and cheaper to train than guide dogs are. In America a guide dog can cost up to $60,000 to train whereas a miniature horse only costs around $2,000. They only have to be taught things once and they remember them usually forever which is why training them is so easy.

Overall, miniature guide horses make excellent guide animals and they are becoming more popular as time goes on.

Horses also live to 25 -30 years old, whereas a dog, after training usually can give only 8 - 10 years of service.
