The "Baby Moses Law" refers to the law that authorizes a designated health care worker to take possession of a baby that is 60 days old or younger. The health care worker can take possession if it is determined that the parent has no intention of taking possession of the child.

It encourages young or destitute parents to give up their babies because they are not in any position to take care of the child. Instead of putting the baby's life in danger, the parent is giving the child a fair shot at life. It also is a mechanism to ensure that people who find and return an abandoned baby to a health care center are not prosecuted. The Baby Moses Law has made a genuine effort to do away with red tape that usually accompanies any health care procedure. Somebody who brings a baby to a health care center will be asked to fill a voluntary form.
