Flea anemia is when there are too many fleas sucking too much blood from the animal, its more common with very young animals as they have less blood volume than adults. Its also more common in neglect cases where someone simply doesn't control the fleas. I think the symptoms are weakness, general poor health and obviously millions of fleas! A simple spot on flea treatment will get rid of the little suckers and hopefully if caught in time there wont be any long term damage.

Anemia is defined and a decrease in red blood cells.  Fleas are dermal parasites that ingest a blood meal from their host.  A severe flea infestation causes anemia from blood loss.  The blood loss is due to the number of blood meals eaten by numerous fleas.
If your dog is lethargic, weak, pale, not eating, or drinking have it examined by a veterinarian.  Also your veterinarian will prescribe appropriate flea medication.  A medication called Capstar can be used to kill adults in 1-2 days then follow it up with a preventative.  You will also need to treat the environment so this problem does not recur.
