First try the driving test. In a wide open space like a parking lot turn the wheel to the right and accelerate from a stop. If you hear "click click click" then you probably have a bad outter left CV joint. Reverse this (turn left) to see if the right CV joint is bad.
Another way to check is to jack up the car and shake the driveshaft up and down. There should no no play.
