The egg came first. Inspite of the fact that this question is supposed to pose a paradox, in evolutionary terms it had to be the egg.
Whatever was before the chicken in the evolutionary chain - whatever it was - was not a chicken.
Then the process of reproduction threw up a little contadiction, as it does from time to time, which has allowed all species to evolve from what they were to what they are now. So, the change happened in the egg. It happened when the fertilisation took place and there was the intermingling of genes.
Sorry to break your paradox but it had to be the egg that came first. The creature before the chicken was probably very close to being one. Let's call it a chickosaurus. Then in one egg was a mutation. That mutation became a chicken and the mutation continued to exist because it was a successful development in that bird.

I believe the chicken came first. God created all animals. My thought would be " who ate the first egg ?" did they see the chicken lay an egg and say mmmm that looks good I think I will eat that.
That's amazing, your comments I mean, are you saying then that the evolution in so many species including man has "stood still" because the ideal has evolved? Then in that case since you do not know which specie laid the egg, or came before, then how can you say that any first specie which someone chooses to name eg. The chicken was not born perfect in the first place. Do you get me? At what point do you determine the pefect evolve of a specie any specie..if I am following your hypotesis correct
It depends on your point of view. Some say the chicken layed the egg so the chicken came first, but others say the egg hatched the chicken so the egg came first. It's a neverending cycle and we may never know why.
Lol yeah I never saw that one coming lol
Haa haa haa!! Lol!!
No rooster no chicks, just breakfast food.
This is a quandry that has puzzled man kind for many years. A chicken needs an egg to grow from and an egg needs a chicken to grow from. When I was a boy, my friend Eric would ask me this sometimes when I claimed to be bored and I would sit and think about it.
Well, Eric, all these years later, I have some real thoughts on the matter.
The egg came first AND the chicken came first, but only through the help of another creature. You see, I believe that the chicken evolved naturally over a process of many years from one animal, don't ask me which, you'll think I'm insane into a chicken. So it is possible for a chicken to slowly have emerged and evolved, the chicken changed each evolution and was reborn via an egg, until finally it came to be a chicken as we know it now (still evolving I shouldn't wonder).

Actually an egg that is laid without a rooster being involved is useless except for breakfast.
Hi buddy
Its really very confusing but after reading this answer i think Egg Came first. :)

Hey Jan! maybe you are right but I think it's chicken because without the chicken how can the egg hatch(because only hen can make the egg hatch by giving it's warmth).
well shefali you are right but think like this: that duck or any other related animal gave the egg and from that egg a new specie "chicken" was born (who knows). and in this case eggs comes first and chicken comes afterwards.. ;)
I think it is most probably chicken.Because if the egg came first their was no chicken to give it the warmth to hatch.

Well it takes a chicken to lay an egg doesn't it? The egg has to have something to take after just like a baby takes after its mom and dad. So the chicken for sure.

How can you be so sure? Scientists don't know.
I think scientists DO know and agree that the animal who is called a chicken must first be achicken to have a chicken egg. Anything before that was a differnt species or variation in genetics.
Had to be the EGG, way back when there was no refrigeration, someone left a dozen eggs out in the sun too long and they hatched. That was the first discovery of the chicken.

But the chickens lay the eggs?
Who says so ? These were store bought eggs.
Store bought laid from the divine chicken sent by the god of the chickens to die for all the other chickens sins?
I say the chicken.
I say this because I am a Christian and Adam was put here by God. He had no parents. The book of Genesis say that God created every animal and assigned Adam the job to name them all.
So, I would think he put them here just like he put Adam here.
Then, after that, everybody else was born in the manner at which we know it today.

Well if your a christian and read the bible like Ryann said it's the chicken. IF you look at it in scientific way it's the egg because an animal must hatch form somewhere. Going back to the bible answer, "God created every living creature".

I think the egg came first and not the chicken. But no one really knows for sure which actually came first, because neither is easy to explain.

GOD created the animals wich means the chicken came first not the egg
hey,
but who laid dinosaurs eggs?
but who laid dinosaurs eggs?
Everything technically evolved from fish, which lay eggs and they evolved to lay eggs from less advanced creatures that multiplied by cell devision.
The chicken. All creatures were created or evolved (whichever you want to believe) then they laid eggs to reproduce.

only the CHICKEN comes first.. This is because that it is said that in the olden days and the recent investigations that only the man came first, they havent said that man came as baby from anybody....
so in the same way the chick would have come....................

The answer might best answered in such a way like this. What comes first, was adam and eve or the sperms that was then evolved to be human being? You might as well know it better right. It was adam and eve that became the human first then their sperms came. So does the chicken and then only came the eggs. Does this answer the question.

This one is deep. Only god knows. Heres one for you---- If a rooster is on top of the barn and lays an egg exactly on top of the point of the roof which way does it roll off?

Well the egg grew into a chicken and then the chicken laid an egg and that grew into a chicken and then that laid an egg......
or is it the chicken had an egg which grew into a chicken and laid another egg......
i dunno....... Who knows.......

When the Earth was made, I believe that on it was placed people and animals.....not fetuses and eggs. So how does that sound? Good logic?
Logic...it'll get you every time. You go girl! LoL~

Oh well never mind.... It was worth a try
Thanks for answering. We do think alike lol
Since birds evolved from from dinosaurs, it is likely that the first gene permutation that resulted in the first proto-chicken arrived as an egg. If your faith tells you otherwise, then they may have a different interpretation.
I think it's more of a riddle, and not meant to be taken seriously.

Look Nic I gotta get some points here. Lol
Gotcha! I see your point!
Had to be the chicken....just like dinosaurs arrived before more were hatched. They are complex collections of molecules which collected to form a specific life form.

The Chicken...God always makes the prototype able to multiply and egg cannot survive without a "warmer" but a "warmer can".

The chicken had to have come first. Just as God created man and woman and then the offspring came from fertilized eggs, the chicken was created and produced their offspring from the eggs.
For me its both... If you think way way way back... If the egg comes first, where does the egg comes from. Must be from the chicken, but where is the chicken come from...

In harry potter it was written by Jo that these type of things exist as a circle. They have no beginning and no end.Second;y tell me that if an egg was created first, who hatched it.Definitely if there will be no chicken no hatching. The egg will remain an egg.Hope you got the answer! :)

As the chicken was evolving it always had the ability to reproduce itself. As with all reproducing living things, looking back as far as the single cell that could split into two. The chicken as we know it evolved from it's ancestors which branched off at some point to become the tasty chickens we now know. There was a time when the chicken did not lay eggs as we know them, but the shell is so far the end result of the chickens current ability to reproduce. If the circumstances of the chickens change then the chicken may evolve to develop other ways to protect the reproduction process.
This question always seemed rather obvious since I was a child and I thought it was a joke to ask it. I am happy with my answer and now ask myself more thought invoking questions. Don't waste time on this one any more.

Depends on religon ut i believe the chicken came first as an egg needs to be cared for before it hatches.

IN harry potter it was said by Jo that these type of things are like a cycle. They have no beginning and no end.And logically explained the hen would come first because if the egg will, who would hatch it, if there will be no hen! :)

Just another another unanswered question...I guess the chicken came first..just my opinion.
The dinosaur came first. So a gene permutation for the first proto-bird progressed through an egg.

The chicken came first, then it laid more eggs, Just as Adam and Eve 'came' first then they made more of us!.........

Oh, how original, Here we go again for the thirty third millionth time. THE CHICKEN, It was created by GOD to produce eggs.

Here's a really deep one for you, why did the chicken cross the road?
To escape the butcher behind him... Suicide sounded better than being butchered alive.
Almost correct Ryanna, but the answer is, To escape from Colonel Sanders.
Of course the chicken. God created the chicken with the ability to be fruitful and multiply. Besides think about it in order for the egg to hatch there had to be a mommy chicken to keep the egg warm in order for it to hatch.

If we take it just like that, I also believe that the first was the chicken.
If there wasn't a chicken who would have take care of the egg?
If there wasn't a chicken who would have take care of the egg?

The egg. The chicken would have evolved from some kind of bird and one day one of these bird would have created an egg which contained young which had a mutation and so on and over thousands of years this would have continued to happen until on day another egg was laid which contained the first chicken! For the chicken to have came first you have to believe in the [stupid] creationist theory and think evolution is rubbish.

The chick came first because god made every other animal and the bible say that noah sent out a dove not an egg so same with the chicken

Haha!! Aren't you clever!!
Yes thank you :D lol
God created animals so he created the chicken... The first chicken did not come from an egg. The chicken came before the egg.

The Winner Chicken! The egg is a product of the chicken or fowl as such an egg cannot be produced without the item needed for it's manufacture. Thus the chicken or lizard or whatever it i that lays eggs needs to be present to produce e the egg.

The chicken came first, and here's why:
The God commanded, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds; cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so...And God was pleased with what He saw. (Genesis 1:24)
God gave us His Holy Word to teach us, inspire us, correct us and warn us. Blessed is the person who listens to His Word.

Well i look at it this way. What came first the sand, cement, water & the bricks or the brick wall. The sand, cement, water & bricks came first. So the answer is the egg.

I think that the egg came first because the egg could of came out of another creator of a different animal it could be a deformed turtle or a different animal if u disagree call your self a loser

I know this is supposed to be a riddle or pun, but the chicken really did come first, because God made the chicken first.

If the chicken came first (speaking scientifically) then what created it? Another creature or the egg? Most believe the egg because of God. But scientists would most likely believe that another creature created the egg. But what would it be? If scientists believe that its the chicken then what created it? And if the christians believe it was the egg then what created it? A
feathered animal and a reptile? Were there dinosaurs similar to the chicken that we know today or something completely different mated with another animal? If christians had their way then it would be the egg. But what if it didn't happen that way? What if somehow two animals evolved? And created and new creature altogether? It is actually up to the individual itself to believe what came first instead of the thoughts of scientists or christians. It would make sense to say the egg but then what created it? But if it was the chicken or creature then what created it? See? It all depends on the believer.

Of course it's the chicken......remember God made us then plants then animals then they reproduce and made eggs.........not eggs then animals.

The chicken, because it states in the bible that god created all animals not all animals as babies or eggs. And if you dont believe on God, it only makes sense because if the egg was first it would freeze because there is no chicken to sit on it.

The chicken came first because God had to create the chicken before he made the egg that the chicken is inside. If the chicken is inside, it has to come first! Besides I'm pretty sure the egg shell is made of the broken down food of the hen and the spit of the chick which then hardens to make a sort of protective shell.

But from where you get the chicken than..?
I don't quite remember the answer. But if you are in a restaurant, whichever you order first comes. Lol

THE CHICKEN
Reason: God created animals and the birds (one of which is the chicken).  He created them male and female.  When they were created a male of the species was made and a female of the species was made, obviously in the adult form.  Since evolution does't actually take place at all we can disregard the the primordial soup the chicken might have (over bilions of years) climbed out of.

The chicken. During creation, God made all creatures grown so that they could take care of themselves.

If you are an agriculturist, you believe in seed as the first entity and hence the egg was definitely the first entity. If you are a vetenarian, you believe in animals as the first entity and so the hen was the first entity. So, the answer to this question depends on the person who raises it.

In evolutionary terms there is significant evidence that Birds evolved from Reptiles. Although evolution occurs at such a slow scale there may be some contention as to when the first "chicken" appeared, the egg from which the chicken emerged from must have come before the chicken itself.

The egg came first then the chicken.
It is a retorical question well the answer is the egg cos the chicken was evolved it to the chicken where as dinosaurs lade eggs

Ya, but the egg has to come out of the chicken.
Depends on your religion..... If you are christian ect. You would think the chicken came first although if you believe in science and evolution then you would believe the egg came first.

Evolutionarily speaking, chickens evolved when two non-chickens mated and their zygote's DNA had a mutation that produced the first chicken. The zygote is inside the egg, therefore the egg came first.
