The two stroke engines like boat motors and chain saws have some distinct advantages in terms of power as compared to the four-stroke engines. The two-stroke engines do not have valves which make their construction simpler and render them much lighter compares to the four-stroke engines.
Unlike a two-stroke engine, a standard four-stroke engine can have problems with oil flow. There is a significant power boost for two stroke engines because they fire once in every revolution while the four-stroke engines fire once in every second revolution. Two stroke engines have the capacity to unleash twice the power into the same space because there are twice as many power strokes in one revolution. The combination of the light weight and twice the power offer two-stroke engines, a considerable "power-to-weight ratio" compared to quite a few four-stroke engines.

Two stroke engines are supposed to give twice the power given by four stroke engines but there a term "scavanging" comes into picture. In the process of forcing out the exhaust gases from the cylinder (for two stroke engine) some fresh charge also gets out with these gases, this is called scavanging. But this is not so in case of four stroke engine because it has separate stroke for exhaust .So for the same fuel quantity at inlet, 2stk engine receives less fuel for combustion. That's why it delivers 1.7 times the power given by four stroke engine.

The power of the 2-st engine actually 1.7 times more than the 4-st engine cos the power sttoke that the engine receives is twice in one revolution and in the four stroke engine it is single, so it is obvious that the earlier has the added advantage of the more expansion but although the more power induction does not show the potential of the engine but in the two stroke engine there are no valve but there are ports for the suction and the exhaust . in the two stroke the there will be two exhaust and the expansion stroke and during the injection the exhaust port remains slightly open which tends the fresh fuel particle to escape from the same.and this term to be called as the scavenging.so due to improper scavenging the fuel consumption of the two stroke is very high as compared to the four stroke. And due to the presence of the unburnt particle and the exhaust gases causes the damage to the piston and the efficiency of the engine so this is the factor in the favour of the four stroke engine
