A bruise is an injury that is usually caused by a blunt instrument or impact with something. Although bruises are not usually dangerous, the reason that they go a funny colour is because the capillaries in the area that has been knocked get damaged. When these capillaries get damaged blood seeps to the tissue area around it.
Minor bruising usually turns a blue or purple colour a day or two after the injury. The bruise will turn a brown colour after about 10 days as the area recovers. If a person bruises easily, it can sometimes mean that the person might be lacking in Vitamin C. What might bruise one person may not necessarily bruise another. It all depends on their tissue and whether the muscles are relaxed or taught underneath the skin. Sometimes bruising can be more serious and if someone finds that they keep getting bruises with no explanation as to how they happened then they should see their GP.
