What Is The Answer To This Formula 3x+7=9, And How Do I Show The Work?

Answer Question

    Start with the questions:
    3"X" + 7 = 9

    Subtract 7 from each side of the equation (to keep both sides of the equation equal and to isolate the "X")
    3"X" +7 -7 = 9 -7

    Do the math:
    3"X" = 2

    Multiply both sides by whatever it takes to get the "X" to one (in this case, 3 = 3/1 so multiplying it times 1/3 would result in 3/3 which equals 1/1 -- so multiply both sides by the same 1/3 to keep both sides of the equation equal):
    1/3 x 3/1"X" = 2 x 1/3

    Do the math:
    3/3"X" = 2/3

    Reduce the fraction and you have solved for "X"
    "X" = 2/3

    (I used "X" -- a capital X in quotation marks -- in this example to distinguish it from just a plain ol x that is used to mean "multiply")
