Was The Battle Of Little Bighorn A Massacre?

Answer Question

No. It was the first thing the folks back East read when they opened their papers. And who can blame the editors - after all it's an emotive, attention grabbing word. It is , however, a total distortion of what
actually occurred on the rolling hills of Montana on Sunday, June 25th, 1876. Lets not forget that Custer was the aggressor here. He , after being advised by his scouts that a massive village lay ahead,
divided his strength into three portions and then, with a hearty wave of his campaign hat, charged headlong into a village that contained men, women and children going about their peaceful activities. The
intention, of course was to massacre them- in the true sense of the word. After all it had worked for him eight years earlier on the banks of the Washita river. But not this time, George. Custer met his
match in a head to head battle. It was definitely no massacre.

Yes, we learned about it in 5th grade. It was either a massacre or a invasion.
