How Can A Facelift Go Wrong?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Facelift surgery is an extensive operation in which the tissues of the face are pulled and pushed and cut away. The cuts made in the face during the face lift can damage facial nerves that can lead to muscle weakness and a numbness that makes the face feel very strange. This is sometimes permanent, but it often improves with time

Facelift surgery can also result in asymmetrical ears, in which the ear lobes are pushed into an unnatural position and stick out. It is difficult to predict that this will happen, even when the final sutures are being put in place but it can be corrected by a further, fairly short, operation.

More serious is the hair loss experienced by some people around the incisions. If a lot of skin is pulled back, the skin that becomes the hairline doesn't have enough hair follicles and patches of baldness occur. A hair transplant is sometimes necessary to fill these every visible gaps.
