Well, its really an exciting thing to party. People really like to party. but still, we need to take the opinion of the parents. In your case, mum and dad are on different boats but you must decide what to do. Your dad is a practical thinker and his opinion is right. Get some good books or a new gadget that would help you in your everyday activities, and give a small party rather like a get-together.. you'd really enjoy it..

I think a compromise is called for here. 18 is a big birthday and you might regret it if you just let it pass without a special celebration. Usually parents either give a party or buy a valuable gift like a necklace or watch that will serve as a memento of the occasion. If you want a party but your parents want to buy you some practical things you need, why not suggest they do the latter but arrange a smaller party as well, maybe go out with just a small group of special friends. I guess it's about having the best of both worlds - fun is good but we also have practical needs like clothes, books, petrol. Talk it over with your Mum and Dad. They only want to make you happy so be honest about what you want. After all, it's your 18th and you should have what you prefer - within reason!

By making a party, a lot of money is spent, and all the friends and relations may come and enjoy the party and forget it after some days. This money spending is not useful to any one. But the same money spent for studies will be very much useful. By being a NIIT Student, you can explain to your mom regarding the facts.

You should listen to your father because school is more important than partying.

Well it IS your 18th b-day so I think a party is in order. You still need to do what your folks say, but I would sit them both down and explaining why you want a party. Perhaps you can work out a compromise. Happy birthday!
