Answer Question

The Namib Desert is a barren zone in the Republic of Namibia in south western Africa; the Namib Desert lies in a north-south direction occupying an area of about 50,000 sq km along the coastal part of Namibia; the east west expanse of the desert is ranges from 50 to 160 km. The word 'namib' means open space in the local Nama language from which the name of the country itself has been derived.

The Namib Desert is home to several unusual kinds of plants like Welwitschia, animals and insects most of which are found in the Namib Naukluft National Park considered to be the largest game park in Africa. The desert sand is of reddish orange color with the sand dunes being among some of the tallest in the world reaching up to a height of 1000 ft. The desert is sparsely populated and difficult to access from sea as well as land; diamonds and tungsten are mined in some parts of the desert.
