I guess you are concerned with the Intestinal Villi. They are actually small, finger like projections on the wall of the small intestine. The purpose of the villi is that they increase the absorptive area and the surface area of the intestinal wall. It helps in allowing more food to be absorbed in the intestine. It also has enzymes on its surface for digestion.

Sibyl is right. Intestinal villi basically just increase the surface area of the small intestine. This means more of the surface of the intestine is in contact with more of the things it wants to absorb at any one time. This means the things to be absorbed can be absorbed quicker and in greater quantities.
