How Can I Keep My Dyed Brown Hair Rich In Color?

My hair is dyed a medium brown; however, shortly after I dye it the bottom half of my hair fades to a dingy, lighter, ugly brown. Is there a hair color I can use that is stronger and richer? Is there anything I can use with the hair color or on my hair to make it richer and last longer?

The bottom half of your hair is more porous and therefore, releases the color faster, which causes it to fade.
Bestthing gave you a very good answer to help with your color process, but it is also important to maintain your hair color with a mild shampoo for chemically/color treated hair.
All hair color fades after a few weeks, but you can slow down the fadeage and make your color last longer by using a mild shampoo.
Also, when you re-color your hair, you should always color the new growth first, let it process for 15 minutes, then apply remaining color to the previously colored hair and let that process for only around 10 to 15 minutes. This will help to keep you from over processing your hair, because the first 15 minutes of the color process is (lift) only. The second is deposit. Your previously colored hair has already been lifted and you have some color left on it. Color will not lift color and your porous ends will become more damaged if you apply the color all over every time you color your hair, due to over-processing of previously colored hair.
    This process is called re-touching.

Clear and concise Noki - a good reason to encourage us all to 'go natural'. Them there chemicals do damage!

I am a cosmetologist and I color my hair brown to cover my grey. Redken puts out shampoos and conditioners for colored hair. It's called Color Extend and it comes in a red bottle. This one is for brunettes. Use this when you color your hair and stop using whatever else you're using. NON-professional products can strip your hair, not only of color but of nutrients as well. There are other factors that can cause your hair to fade as well. (the environment for example). Are you coloring your hair or are you going to a hairstylist? This also matters....if you don't know what you're doing, leave it to the professionals! Professional products were made with the integrity of your hair in mind....OTC products were just made for money. If you're coloring your own hair did you know that you have to color the roots and ends LAST? This is why you should go to a professional......
