Why Am I Finding Baby Toads In My Yard Where There Is No Water Source Nearby?

I live in the country and we have found many baby toads the size of a blade of grass all in our yard. They do not seem to be anywhere near a water source. How did they get there?

I think you can find toads just about anywhere.  This is right about the time where you would start seeing little baby toads popping up in your garden.  There are probably many ways they could have found their way into your backyard.  Somebody's pet toad laid eggs nearby after escaping.  Someone bought a nursery plant that had a toad eggs in it, etc.  I found this article and it sounds similar to your situation: www.choosingvoluntarysimplicity.com

Quinto's explanation sounds reasonable to me. Makes sense to me.

So this means toads don't start out as tadpoles and the eggs don't have to constantly be in water.  Interesting.  Learning something new everyday!  Thanks for your help.

Right, that's frogs. Frogs and toads are similar, but not the same.
