Phil Parkinson, the former manager of Colchester United, lasted a mere five months as manager of Hull City AFC. He was appointed manager by club chairman Adam Pearson in the summer of 2006 following the departure of Peter Taylor to Crystal Palace. He had guided Colchester to promotion to the Championship and was said to be regarded as an excellent up and coming manager. Pearson was very keen on Parky and put his money where his mouth was. The chairman paid £400,000 in compensation to bring Parkinson, who was under contract as manager of Colchester, to the east Yorkshire club.
However, despite paying over £2million on new players in the first transfer market window of the 2006/7 season, Parkinson managed just four wins in 21 games, leaving Hull second from bottom in the Championship league table by December. After going down 5-1 at his former club and then losing 4-2 at home to Southampton, he was sacked on 4th December 2006.
