I can't tell you what is happening because I do not know his diet plan. But I can tell you that the best way to take care of a dogs teeth is by feeding him NAME brand hard dog food. As well as buying your dog treats that help to clean his teeth, these treats are usually rather hard so please make sure your dog can handle chewing on them before you give them to him.

My opinion is Periodontitis. It is the inflammation of the structures that support teeth, the gum tissue, etc.It is really common in dogs and is caused by a bacteria that causes plaque. You definitely want to get him to the vet to make sure and if so get a solid diagnosis. As long as it is caught early (before teeth have lost 75% of their bone support) they can be salvaged. Good Luck.
