There are different types of body kits available for vehicles and you have to buy the right one for your vehicle. The body kit has to be sanded and prepped before it can be painted. One of the procedures by which the body kit is applied or affixed to the vehicle is called bedding.
In this procedure, body filler is applied to both the seams and the pieces which are to be affixed to the vehicle. Before the filler is applied the edges of the components they have to be sanded or scraped to a rough finish.
The body parts have to be held in place for a while before they can stick. Where ever there is a need to apply some body filler go ahead and do so. Then sand the entire section into a smooth evenness. Now the body kit can be painted over.
