What Is The Central Theme Of The Movie 'Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer?'

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The movie 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer' is the cinematic projection of the famous historical horror novel that was written by German author Patrick Soskind in the year 1985 and is titled 'Das Parfum'.  The actual movie is directed by Tom Tykwer and the central theme of the story revolves around the notion of the sense of scent.  It is a pedantic exploration of the smelling sense and the relationship that it shares with the emotional comprehension of different odor and scents that the smelling sense comes in any encounter with, be it of any nature.

A horror story by genre, it involves a murderer whose identity, communication and the moral aspect of his spirit are the various dimensions through which the story is carried forward.  The tale is set in the 18th century in France and stars Ben Whishaw, who plays the part of the psychopathic Jean-Baptiste Grenouille with elegance and élan.  Nevertheless the general opinion as it goes with all novel-based movies goes for this one as well, elucidating the general stance of the public that the movie was not as good as the book.
