    Anchorage, sitting on the edge of the wilderness, is home to almost half the population of Alaska. Beyond the attractions, the beautiful setting makes it a great place to visit. The subarctic climate keeps the summer temperatures cool and the days very long. Here are 5 great things to see.

    Alaska Native Heritage Center - Located on 26 acres close to downtown and the edge of the mountains, this facility shows the history of Alaska and its Native people. There is storytelling, hands-on crafts, life-size villages and a friendly staff. There is a gift store and café available.

    Alaska Zoo – Visitors can see some of the local wildlife such a caribou, glacier bears, bears, moose, dall sheep, musk ox, moose and more. There are also non-native animals such as the Siberian tiger and elephants.

    Anchorage Museum of Art & History – This museum is home to more that 1000 pieces of art, photography and history of Alaska. There are also exhibits form around the world including a children's gallery.

    H2Oasis Waterpark – This indoor waterpark is one of the largest in the United States. It includes a wave pool, river, water drop, water cannons, water coaster, children's lagoon, pirate ship with slides leading to a children's lagoon, and a splash pool.

    Kincaid Park - This 1,400 acre park has trails that allow for running, dog-walking, biking, hiking, and roller skiing. It the winter, snow showing, sledding and other activities can be found, as well as fishing. Picnics and walks can find beautiful scenery and wildlife.
