What Does Quilting Mean?

Quilting is a process of sewing two sheets of cloth with a layer of insulating batting inserted in the middle of the two sheets. A cover for a bed or a resembling large division of quilting work is also known as a quilt. However, a quilt is not necessarily rectangular in shape, by rule. Quilts are also used as wall hangings as pieces of art and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Ralli quilting is a type of quilting which is mastered by women in Sindh, who often make rallis in groups.

Many people believe that quilting had its origin out of necessity or utility, more than decorative or ornamental purposes. This particular craft is believed to have originated in the Crusades, wherein the troops required warmth as well as for protective purposes from scarping caused by the bulky armour.
