A background is part of a scene, such as an image, painting or other visual form which is placed behind something else that is closer to the person viewing it. In art, if someone where to paint a picture of a character standing alone then the character would be in the foreground and anything behind it would be the background.
A background, in computing terms, is known as 'wallpaper'. This wallpaper is placed on the computer's desktop, behind the icons which are placed on the desktop.
Computer backgrounds have become very popular and can be obtained from the internet, usually off websites which offer them for free.

These backgrounds can be created on websites where the user can customise their background and a code will be created. Users can then paste this code into their profile so that their new background will be visible to other users.

Simply we can say background is a thing which we see behind the characters either the plain color or any other picture or scenery.
