Writing is hard work! I am a published author and have been in some of the top books in the United States. I have two books published and write for forty magazines, and I stil would not want to depend totally on my writing for income.

If I was you I would do a lot of writing on the side, weekends, and after work, and until you start to get acceptance letters and checks in the mail. It takes quite sometime before you are well-know enough to trust a given income.

If you are not the breadwinner in your family, then you might want to quit your job and put more time into writing. There are many great writing course on-line that can help you get published! Good luck.

Writers are a dime a dozen, good writers are 20 cents a dozen, great writers are 50 cents per dozen. Great Writers who have been accepted by great agents who have great reputations with great publishers, well now that is a rare thing.

The key is becoming great, not just at writing, but writing things of interest to a large audience.

The are plenty of places on the internet to post your articles so you can see how much feedback and traffic they generate. There are even a few who pay a few dollars for them, (I sell about 15 a month) It gets your name known and if done right will direct the readers back to your website where you can self publish your own material for sale. I self publish and sell my books at Lulu.com. Can I quit my day job yet, not quiet, but am working toward it.

      Good luck!

It depends on how much you are earning as a writer. If you have already had a book published that it is a best-seller and you are signed up for several more that are likely to be best-sellers, then you could consider quitting your job, though even this isn't certain.

It is best to wait a while and see how well your books sell. If it seems like you are earning a stable income from it then perhaps you can give up your job.

There are also grants available for authors who have already been published. These are to help support full-time authors financially.

If you are really eager to write full-time then you could always consider applying for a job with a magazine company who need writers to provide regular articles for magazines.

The best thing to do is wait for a film deal. That's when authors really start to make their money!

Well, that depends, do you have a wealthy partner, wife or husband? Do you have huge savings reserves to pay the rent or mortgage, the credit cards, buy the kids their school uniforms, or keep up the repayments on your loans.

The usual way to go about this is to only give up your full time job when you have to because the writing work is too much to keep the two going. It's great to have a dream, but its really important to maintain your standard of living. Of course, why not take a weekend away by yourself with a laptop or type writer, or go on a writer's retreat somewhere, it would certainly help you and couldn't hurt.

Write in the mornings, write in the evenings, write in your toilet breaks, just write write writer, but only we you can afford to do it should you leave you stability for a shot at a very difficult career.
