What Is The Real Value Of A Coin, When Bidding, As Compared To What Is Listed In The PCGS Guide?

When bidding on Ebay or similar auction, I would like to know if the coin values on PCGS, etc. Are close to what is the "true" value and if one's bid should be close to that or much less. Thank you.

Well you need to remember the prices listed on PCGS are the values for those coins when they have been graded by PCGS. As with coins or any other object, it is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. So a coin that you bid for on ebay is only really worth what a person is willing to bid on it. Generally the prices listed in the Red Book tend to be the most accurate (but not always), second to that is the prices listed on the PCGS website. The prices on the PCGS website are determined by how much the PCGS certified coin dealers sell coins for. They take the averages from the amount that coin dealers sell their coins for. But when it comes to buying (or selling) coins anywhere you need to remember the following two rules:
    1. Something is only worth what a person is willing to pay for it

    2. Buy low, and sell high!
