This is a comment not an answer. I have no idea of the origin of the name, but do you by any chance know a woman who would be about 63 or 64 years old whose maiden name was Carolyn Balcom? She went to school in Oklahoma City in 1957-58 and perhaps beyond. She married very young, to a man named Robert Clark. She was a friend of mine back in the day and I would love to regain contact with her. Hope you get the answers to your question and I'm sorry I couldn't help.

No, I'm sorry, I don't. Balcom is my grandma's maiden name and the only Balcoms that I know are in Michigan. My dad does have a cousin Carol, daughter of Bill and Buryl Playter nee Balcom but it would not be the same one as she grew up as Carol Playter although the age would be close. Sorry i could not help you out.
