Setting up a password login will keep them from getting onto your PC. Just as websites with passwords, select an alpha/numeric password that you can remember but they can't hack.

I would setup passwords for the operating system and the bios that are alpha numeric on all of them make them some thing you only know with out leaving any hints that would clue them in on the password.

I have passwords on everything that can possibly be passworded. My 15 year old son has a habit of messing with control settings on the computer so I have login passwords and make sure that he didn't change anything when I do let him on.. Also I keep my laptop in a case that has a lock. Make sure you chose a password that your roommates can't hack, and change it often. ....or....... You could buy a big ol' dog and have him stand guard.... Just kidding :)

The answers all seem to be the same: Put a password on the computer. This will sort of work, but some operating systems are so insecure that this really isn't any help. For instance, Windows 95 and 98 are pretty much useless in this regard.
For real security:
Lock the computer case
Turn off the ability to boot from any device except for the hard drive
Lock the computer (BIOS) configuration
Make sure you are using a secure operating system (Windows 2000 or later, linux, mac osx). Put a hard-to-guess password on your own account.
If the operating system allows for secure guest accounts, add one and put a password on it if you want to allow limited access to the computer.
Setup the screensaver to kick in quickly when the computer isn't in use (five minutes or less), then make sure it asks for a password before clearing the screen saver.
Some operating systems (Linux) also allow you to add a "lock" button, which fires up the screen saver immediately.
Hope this helps.
