Answer Question

    1)  (x-4)(2x-7) = 0
    Any value of x that makes one of the factors equal to zero is a solution.
    x-4 = 0
    x = 4    (add 4 to both sides of the equation)

    2x-7 = 0
    2x = 7    (add 7 to both sides of the equation)
    x = 7/2    (divide both sides of the equation by 2)

    The solution set is x = {4, 7/2}

    2) x2 + 5x - 36 = 0
    x2 + 5x - 36 = (x-4)(x+9) = 0
    As above, x = 4 is a solution

    x+9 = 0
    x = -9    (subtract 9 from both sides of the equation)

    The solution set is x = {-9, 4}
    1 0
