What Is A SMART Home?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A SMART home is one which has been fitted with some kind of communications infrastructure.  Thsi enables different systems and devices in the home to talk to each other.  Generally within a home the central heating system or security alarm system are all separate from each other.  Within a SMART home they are all able to pass on information and commands between them.  So you could have your curtains being opened by the security system.
The SMART home is reliant on several computers which are located around the home to turn switches on and off or to send/receive information.
Within a SMART home, you have the opportunity to have the lights turned on at dusk, to improve security and even have your front door open to greet you as you walk up the drive.
The technology can be fitted into both existing and new homes, but it is cheaper if it is installed as a house is being built.
Currently it is mainly used in prestigious and expensive homes, although there is also an obvious use for this type of technology in the homes of people who are elderly or disabled.
