Most people do not eat enough fibre, averaging about 12g a day, when in fact they should be ingesting 18g per day for an adult. Fibre can be found in cereals, lentils,beans, fruit and veg. Not eating enough fibre is thought to be associated with some gut disorders, such as, diverticullitus and cancer.
