Why Are The Olympics Held Every Four Years?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Basically Olympics are held after every four years because of the length of Olympiad that is four years. In the ancient Greece, Olympiad is the method of keeping time. The first time when Olympics were held in 1896, after that it is held after every four years. According to the International Olympic Committee, the four years time period also respect the origins of Ancient Olympics.

Even in 1906, IOC-sanctioned event was held but that event was not considered as Olympics and the idea of decreasing the year gap in Olympics did not work.

Today, Olympics is the biggest international sports festival and it is held after every four years.

I thought that in earlier Olympics they were held every 2 years, until the 1908 Olympics.
