When Was The First Copy Of Rolling Stone Magazine Published?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The first copy of the Rolling Stone Magazine was published in November 1967, and the first cover, which debuted on November 9, 1967, featured John Lennon. It was founded in San Francisco, by Jann Wenner, and Ralph J. Gleason, the music critic.

Rolling Stone is one of the most popular American magazines the world over. It is devoted to music, popular culture and politics.

It was initially identified with the hippie counterculture of the time, which it widely reported on. The magazine however, embraced more traditional and mainstream journalistic standards, distancing itself from the underground newspapers like Crawdaddy, and avoiding their radical politics.

The magazine has been extremely influential in shaping pop culture particularly in the 1970s. The magazine was so influential to the extent that it spawned a hit single in "Cover of the Rolling Stone" by Dr Hook & The Medicine Show.
