Why Are Reindeers Called Reindeer?

Reindeer is actually a stag with double attires. It is a native of the arctic region. It has large antlers. It is also known as the caribou. It is believed to be the animal that draws the sleigh on which Santa Claus rides when he goes visiting during Christmas. It is also found in the cold regions of the earth. This animal is also domesticated for various purposes.

It is not exactly known as why they are known as reindeer. But it is a notion that it is named so because of its antlers which is peculiar characteristic of this animal. It is known as the caribou which is said to be a Mi'kmaq word which means "one that paws the ground". This animal is very significant in the Polar Regions as it is used for several purposes like transport, meat, skin and other purposes.
