How Do I Become A Footballer?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In England and Wales, there are 92 professional clubs and a handful of semi-professional sides. In Scotland there are around 25 full-time professional clubs.
However, the number of professional players has fallen by over 20 per cent in recent years due to financial pressures on clubs.
Players with a chance of succeeding at a professional level are usually spotted by scouts while playing for school or youth teams. So start young, and be keen and dedicated.
Once you have progressed through a club's Academy or Centre of Excellence you may be given a professional contract, although only around ten per cent of those in Academies are offered full-time employment at their club.
An apprentice at an academy earns between 90 and 100 a week so it's not all riches and glory to start off with!
