The total distance is about 700 miles / 11 hours of driving.

Summerton, South Carolina is 351 miles along the way, don't think I'll find a more perfect half-way mark than that!  It's also directly on the route you would most likely take (Highway 95).  There are at least 10 budget hotels in the immediate Summerton area , many of then national chains (so, nowhere run by Norman Bates).
