    Effectiveness of all hormonal contraceptives containing both estrogen and progesterone is reduced if antibiotics are used. Depot shots contain progesterone only, so, their efficacy us not reduced by using antibiotics.  One of the reasons of using depot birth control is that if a lady is on antibiotics for long term then she should use depot shot.
