"Ordinary Time" is a misnomer. In Latin, it is "Tempus per annum" = time throughout the year. It is the liturgical time that is not a part of the Advent, Christmas, Lent, or Easter seasons. It was created with the along "new" calendar when the 1970 Missal went into effect.
