I have read all three books, seen the movie, but still am not sure, and would like to hear your opinions.

Treyman, I've never read nor will ever read these books because I'm not an atheist and I strongly believe in a higher power. His name is JESUS CHRIST! And He is GOD ALMIGHTY Who created the heavens and the earth. Do you know that He loves you very very much because He gave His life for you and I. God gave His only begotten Son (Jesus Christ) that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Hey I'm a Catholic, I enjoyed the books because I liked the literature, and the plot not because I'm atheist.-Trey

The books are meant to make you think about your own faith and religion in general in the world today from my view.  The book may have been written from an atheistic view, I couldn't tell you.
Either way The Golden Compass does have a pretty solid plot
