When Does A Deer Have Fawns?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Depending on the species of deer the first time a doe is able to breed is at around sixteen months of age. Deer mostly attain puberty at an age of fifteen to sixteen months. Does are generally with offspring for a period of eight to ten months; gestation period. In most cases a doe can give birth to one or two young ones, though possible three are uncommon. The young one tries to get on its feet and walk immediately after birth. The mother generally licks it clean after birth.

For the first week after birth the baby deer will remain in well hid bushes unable to follow its mother on her frequent trips. After the first week it will remain with its mother for a year at least.
