Lorenzo was the author of the first textbook on Latin grammar. It was 'Elegance of the Latin language' which was published in the year of 1471.

Lorenzo was an Italian humanist as well as a literary critic. He was also a great philosopher of his time. He was born in the year of 1407 at the Papal States in Rome. He left Rome in the year of 1430 as he was unable to find a post as a secretary in his native state. He spent his five years travelling in the northern part of Italy.

Lorenzo Valla was appointed the royal secretary and historian for Alfonso V. Alfonso V was the power figure of Aragon during the years of 1435 to 1448.

Lorenzo criticized the works of Boethius for his view points. He also criticized Aristotle. Among all of the creations of Aristotle his subject was 'barbarism'. Lorenzo also criticized the prose style of Cicero. He refused to believe the Apostles' Creed that was composed by 12 Apostles. He faced the Inquisition for this and narrowly avoided being burnt at the stake.

He died in the year of 1457 in Rome. 'Annotations on the new testaments' was his last creation which was brought out in the year 1505 - a long time after his death.
