Joanne Kathelen Rowling, born in 165, is a British author known for her magical adventures of Harry Potter. The Harry Potter books have been on the bestsellers lists for over a decade now, attracting both children and adults worldwide.
Rowling demonstrated her writing skills as early as age six when she wrote her first story. After graduating from the University of Exeter in England she took on various jobs but did not give up her passion for writing.
At age 26, she moved to Portugal where she taught the English language and married a journalist. During her stay in Portugal, she started writing about an orphaned boy who lived with his mean aunt and uncle. In 1995, Rowling returned to England. She continued writing but her finished manuscript was rejected by publishers. Rolling, however, did not give up and managed to get her book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone published in Britain in 1997. The tale of Harry Potter, who after knowing about his magic abilities at age 11 attends the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was published in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 1998. The Harry Potter books have been doing a record business since then and translated into nearly 30 languages.
