How Fast A Runner Do I Have To Be To Be Considered For The 2012 Olympic Team?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A new target setting approach has been launched by the main athletics bodies in the UK so that everyone can see the target times for top performing athletes. Right now the target time for an adult male 100 metre runner is 10.30 seconds and the target time for a female adult 100 metre runner is 11.50 seconds. Target times for inclusion in any major event team are set based on a range of factors. Every major national and international athletics event has performance targets associated with it. In the case of the Olympics target times, often known as qualifying times, are set and these are one factor in determining whether or not an individual is granted a place in the final team. Of course younger athletes aspiring to compete in future Olympics will not be able to achieve major event qualifying times so early in their careers. In an attempt to give younger runners clear targets to aim for and to help identify future star performers who can be given extra help to develop there are now target times for younger age groups as well. These can all be found on a new website www.powerof10.info
