Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Wordsworth's first publication was in the year 1793 it was a compilation of poems which had works like 'An Evening walk' and 'Descriptive Sketches'. He received a heritage of £900 from Raisley Calvert to help him pursue poetry in 1795. In the same year he came across another poet Samule Taylor Coleridge in Somerset.

The two poets bonded well and developed a close friendship. Later along with his sister Dorothy, Wordsworth shifted to Somerset, close to Coleridge's place. Both poets together with help from Dorothy produced 'Lyrical Ballads-1798' which was considered to be one of the most important works of the English Romantic Movement. The compilation did not have Wordsworth or Coleridge's name as author. Wordsworth's famous poems "Tintern Abbey" along with Coleridge's "The Rime of Ancient Mariner" was published in this volume.
