Why Isn't Education As Important To The United States As It Should Be?

Answer Question

Well, basically, when you are born with things like education provided so easily, you don't appreciate it.

By you I mean most people.

It's the same in Australia although I have to say Americas education system is much more disappointing.

    Cheers

There are two reasons:  The first is that education in all societies is a system of intellectual indoctrination.  In the United States, unique to all other nations, that responsibility lies primarily with the individual states, not the Federal Government.  In that respect, each states teaches what it wants the way it wants to teach it, so providing a nation focus to our educational system relies on the level of importance the President puts on national conformity to standards.

The second reason is that as a capitalist democracy our primary objective is to gain as much capital and material possessions as possible through work, and education is only as important as the position in the workforce one attempts to achieve.
