1 - If the power supply is connected or not.
2 - Usually used to display whether the modem is performing correctly, where either a flashing or fixed light suggests one or the other

3 - ADSL- this usually displays the health of the actual adsl connection to the exchange you are connected to. This helps to make sure the phone line and physical connection is ok.

    4) Wireless- I would imagine this means the modem allows wireless access and reflects whether this is active / performing.

    5) USB - Whether the connection is live and connected to the USB port on your computer.

    6) LAN - whether the connection is working correctly within a Local Area Network of other computers or devices.

    7) Link/Act - Usually blinks with requests from the LAN or highlights correct configuration of your settings for ADSL.

Power, Status, ADSL, Wireless, USB, LAN and Link/Act are the indicators that are found on a modem. For instance, if consider a modem of a brand called D-Link, you will find all the above mentioned indicators on it.

The "Power" indicator shows the modem is switched on or switched off.  The "Status" indicator indicates that if the modem is functioning properly or not. Suppose the modem is not functioning properly you will see a blinking light, otherwise when it is working fine it will show a steady light on it. "ADSL" indicator shows you status of the connection ADSL line on the modem, if it is working fine which can be observed by the steadily blinking light." Wireless" indicator shows you the status of the connected Wireless Router (Wireless Router can be used for wireless internet connection on your laptop). "USB" indicator shows the status of the USB connection that has been used for internet connection. "LAN" indicator shows the status of LAN connection. "Link/Act" indicator shows the status of the Ethernet connection to the computer.

Normally, for an internet connection a power cable, Ethernet cable or USB and ADSL cable is required to be hooked up.
