There are websites and books that throw light on the mechanics of dehydrating. Using the dehydrator is simple, but what to do before and after preparation make a lot of difference. For example, if you do not blanch fruit to kill the enzymes, it can progressively ripen even after dehydrating and finally get spoilt. Due to improper means of storage if the food comes in touch with moisture, the quality can be deteriorated.
To use the dehydrator, put the bottom part down, add the trays and put the lid on top. Plug the machine in. After the machine starts, turn the dial to the right heating level. A dehydrator usually has four trays. You can even expand it to 12 trays if you want. Refer to the user guide which comes along to know more in particular about your dehydrator. Remember that you have to cut and make ready the items that you want to dehydrate. It can take about five-seven minutes to prepare them. You can dehydrate almost anything edible, vegetables for soups, fruit for snacks, ingredients for recipes etc.
